Doctor Michael Wong has found that the best way to assess whether and to what extent a person suffers from plaque in the arteries is the electron-beam CT test. There is agreement among the thought leaders in preventive cardiology that this is the best test to measure risk of a heart attack.

The test requires no preparation and takes about ten minutes. Radiation is about 20 to 100 percent of natural background radiation a person would experience per year.
Our practice has often been surprised at our patients’ results. Many have normal lab results and no obvious symptoms of heart disease. Yet a notable number have high calcium scores, indicating an abnormal plaque burden. We have used this test to decide how aggressively to treat this dangerous and otherwise invisible disease.
Patients also are surprised at the photographs showing the location of the plaque in their arteries, and how much plaque exists throughout the coronary-artery network. Or they are relieved at finding very little plaque.
We work with several facilities that have excellent equipment and expert doctors who have scientifically contributed to the understanding of this technique. The scoring is done relative to a database of tens of thousands of tests done over decades. Risk is measured according to this database.
