DID YOU KNOW?: Healthy adults who exercise were less likely to die of any cause during 3 decades of follow up.

BY THE NUMBERS: The study team came to this conclusion after analyzing data from 116,221 adults from the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, At the start women were between 30 and 55 years of age and men between 40 and 76 years of age.

WHAT IT IS: These exercisers were followed for 30 years and compared to a group who did not exercise via questionnaires repeated up to 15 times during the follow up.

BOTTOM LINE: 150 minutes of exercise per week was sufficient to provide this protection. Longer exercise made no difference.
