walkingWe reviewed the actual study and the results are surprising! Walking briskly can lower blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes as much as running, in some cases, even more!

For example, running reduced coronary heart disease 4.5% compared to 9.3% for walking.

The study was large, involving over 33,000 runners and 15,000 walkers for six years.  Ages ranged from 18 to 80, with most participants in their 40s to 50s. Men were 20 percent of walkers but over 50 percent of the runners.  Brisk walking for at least 30 minutes produced impressive results.
The study’s principal author Paul T. Williams, Ph.D said, “People are always looking for an excuse not to exercise, but now they have a straightforward choice to run or walk and invest in their future health.”
